The Wind Energy Department of Risø in Denmark aims to meet the need for new knowledge in wind energy. It carries out research in co-operation with industry and other users of the research results, in close collaboration and alliances with national and foreign universities research institutions and organisations. The overall objectives of the department are to develop new opportunities and technology for the exploitation of wind energy, advance competitiveness of wind energy, further global application of wind energy, advance the atmospheric physics basis on wind effects. Its key areas of scientific expertise in the department are boundary layer meteorology, aerodynamics, aero-acoustics, fluid and structural mechanics, electrical design and control as well as machine and construction technology. The scientific expertise is advanced through field tests, laboratory tests and numerical modelling. The department works within strategic and applied research in most themes of wind power meteorology, wind turbine technology and applications of wind energy.
